The Older the Wine – the Better it Gets?

Dear friends,

wine is important to all people of Mallorca. Pollensa has its most famous vinyard with many awarded wines already produced: Mortitx

“The project was born from the ideas of a group of wine enthusiasts, and materialised in June 2001 with the constitution of the Vinyas de Mortitx S.A. company and the acquisition of part of the old Mortitx estate with one main objective: to produce fine wines bringing out the special characteristics and peculiarities of the land where it is grown. At present this company is owned by fifty seven shareholders.

Vinyas Mortitx accepts the challenge of the dream of more than simply marketing its wine. As pioneers in the area, we want to make it possible for everyone involved to increase their knowledge of the new as well as the ancient elements of the ancient culture of winemaking. We hope to encourage dialogue and debate in which everyone can join in. YOU ARE INVITED”. www.mortitx.com

Although some of the finest and most expensive wines are designed to benefit from careful aging at controlled temperatures, 95 to 99 percent of all the wine produced in the world is intended to be drunk up promptly, while it is young and fresh.

Most often, when people find a dusty old bottle of wine in a cabinet, closet or basement, the best that can be said for it is that it’s old. Wine that’s past its time rarely turns to vinegar, as in older times, but it turns brownish, flat and dull, oxidized to the point where it resembles bad cheap Sherry.

How can you tell whether your old wine is still good? The ultimate test is simple: Pull the cork and take a taste. ENJOY the weekend!

New event in Pollensa: The Berlin Chamber Orchestra

The Berlin Chamber Orchestra

Wednesday 11.08 at 22:00h in the Claustro de Santo Domingo, Pollensa

The Berlin Chamber Orchestra is one of the most traditional orchestras of the German capital. The ensemble, consisting mainly of musicians of the younger generation, has maintained and developed its position during more than six decades and has stood out internationally through concerts in countries like Spain, Italy, France, England, Japan, India, Argentina, Brasil, Chile, USA and Canada.

The Berlin Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1945. With its first artistic leader, conductor Helmut Koch, the orchestra experienced great acknowledgement already in the 50s and 60s. In this time the ensemble obtained several renowned distinctions like the Grand Prix du Disque and the Japanese Disc Prize for Vivaldi’s “Juditha Triumphans”, Monteverdi’s “L’Orfeo” and Mozart’s “Betulia liberata” as well as the Goethe Prize of Berlin for the excellent presentation of the city in foreign countries.

In the 70s and 80s the orchestra was united to the conductor Peter Schreier, with whom it realized numerous concert tours and CD and TV productions. Amongst others the complete profane cantatas of J.S.Bach were recorded for the German television. In that time the ensemble collaborated with artists like Vittorio Negri, Ludwig Güttler, Edith Mathis, Kurt Masur, Jeffrey Tate, Annerose Schmidt, Heinz Schunk and Jochen Kowalski.

In recent years Berlin Chamber Orchestra has worked with the artistic directors Katrin Scholz, Michael Sanderling and Michael Erxleben with whom it has produced several CD productions for Berlin Classics/edel. Furthermore it has been invited to the Rheingau Music Festival, Festival Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Choriner Musiksommer, Canarias Music Festival, Festival Internacional de Música de Pollença/ Mallorca and many others. International tours have lead the orchestra to Japan, USA, Poland and repeatedly to Spain, where it has performed in the most important concert halls like the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid and the Palau de la Música in Barcelona. Berlin Chamber Orchestra maintains its own concert series in the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Berlin Philharmonic Hall.
